Electromobility in Peru: these are the charging points for electric cars | MAP

The electromobility it is a reality in the country and on the tracks you can already see electrified vehicles circulating all day. Although the main recharge must be at home, it is necessary to have “electrolineras”, that is, recharge points on the street.

According to the Automotive Association of Peru (AAP) today there are only two charging stations available in conventional taps (Lurín and San Isidro) that are free. In addition, there are nearly thirty charging stations nationwide installed in hotels, shopping centers and private companies, for the 3,500 electrified vehicles that circulate on our tracks.

However, for Ellioth Tarazona, normative technical manager of the AAP, “as soon as (electromobility) becomes widespread, it will begin to charge. But the charges will always be less than what it means to spend on liquid fuels such as gasoline or diesel.”

How do electric stations work? Gonzalo Flechelle, Manager of Porsche Peru, told Trade that there are two ways: plug the vehicle into the Alternating Current (AC) electrical network, medium power charging, or plug it into a Direct Current (DC) Charger, high power charging. The latter is the case of charging stations, which are located in suitable public charging facilities given the high power (KWH) they supply.

“It is very important that in our country we have a single connector standard for both AC and DC and in this way facilitate the charging of vehicles as more charging infrastructure is developed,” he told this newspaper.
