What social and economic opportunities does the metaverse bring to companies and users?

Users of the metaverse They could reach 40% of the world population in 2025, a virtual world with social, educational, economic, business, advertising and entertainment possibilities, according to several specialists analyzed this Tuesday.

In a day of debate organized by the Casa de América in Madrid, several experts and businesswomen spoke about its possibilities, with special emphasis on the avenues that are opening up for advertising brands and entertainment.

“A virtual world in which people interact socially and economically”, as defined by Soraya Cadalso, co-founder of Uttopion Metaverse. An interaction, she said, with “much more immersive access, with a new way of creating and consuming content and creating avatars.”

Cadalso explained how his company interacts with brands or communication agencies to generate business opportunities, but also pointed out that the metaverse is “a space for teaching, cultural enrichment or communication”.

THE METAVERSE, A SPACE UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Cadalso considered that the world of the metaverse “is under construction”, where “giant steps in technological development are taking place that are a bit dizzying”, but the “metaverse yields possibilities on many levels”.

For Lara Smirnova, a specialist in electronic sports, “young people have stopped watching television and have moved to their room, a space that does not let them be social, where they connect with friends, play games or watch movies.”

Smirnova recalled that “the pandemic has accelerated the process -of the metaverse- because we needed to connect”, and alluded to the entry of large telecommunications companies such as Movistar or Vodafone into electronic sports to reach younger audiences.

“Many soccer clubs realized that they had to bet on ‘eSports’ (electronic sports), in the pandemic we saw great soccer players playing the FIFA (game), which is very similar to consuming traditional soccer” , I consider.

In his opinion, leisure in this universe “becomes more democratized” because “you may not be able to access a concert in real life, but there you are.”

CRITICISM AND SUSPICIOUSNESS ABOUT THE METAVERSE

The specialists referred to the criticism and suspicions that often fly over this virtual world and indicated that it is due to “ignorance” on the part of society.

“You imagine that the internet is a dark world that is going to scam you and hurt you, but it is not like that, you have to think that kids have another type of language, they also identify the limits, if you educate them well to use them correctly, it is a tool more,” Smirnova said.

For his part, Eider Díaz, also a specialist in electronic sports, assumed that “it is what it is now, but over time society is educated and will know how to differentiate.”

He insisted that the desire of the users of this world “is to get together in a digital space” and that once the “mechanics” of the operation are understood “they are much simpler.”

“There are many people who do not socialize well and the metaverse can be an answer to this, it is a step in social quality that is necessary if well managed,” he defended.
