The world’s first virtual reality bus takes you to ancient Rome

The original old-fashioned splendor Rome returns from the hand of the first bus of virtual reality of the world and, thanks to technology 3Dyou will be able to contemplate the great monuments of the imperial city in an unprecedented journey through time and space.

Starting next Thursday, Romans and tourists will be able to discover what the Italian capital was like 2,000 years ago thanks to the immersive experience of this electric bus, created by the Italian company Invisible Cities with the support of the municipal government and the Colosseum Archaeological Park.

“The idea was born from recreate what Rome was like in ancient times creating a viewer as big as a bus that would allow everyone to share the experience together”, explained today at the presentation of the project the delegate administrator of Invisible Cities, Giorgio Capaci, who pointed out that Rome will be the first city in the world to have this virtual reality system.

During the half-hour tour, some OLED screens that line the interior of the vehicle will allow full color projections of the most important monuments of imperial Rome such as the Imperial Forums, the Colosseum, the Circus Maximus and the Theater of Marcellus.

All these reconstructions have been prepared together with a team of archaeologists to achieve the greatest historical fidelity and make the visions “scientifically interesting and informative”, added the cultural adviser of the Roman city council Miguel Gotor.

In addition to the projections of the buildings, you can also see, as the tour progresses, the life of the ancient Romans, with children playing near the Colosseum, merchants selling products of the time or couples walking among the temples.

These moving videos that shake with the rattle of the bus along the ancient roads of the Eternal City provide greater realism thanks also to the music and fragrances that are released inside the vehicle, when it passes near an ancient garden or the place where the ancient spice merchants were placed.

“This is a modern and unique initiative that we support to tell the thousand-year-old history of the capital under a new aspect capable of attracting more public and involving the Romans in a journey to discover the past of their city”, celebrated the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri.

Likewise, visitors will be able to activate a speedometer, a magnetometer and a surface laser to see in more detail the position of the vehicle in the real and virtual physical space, as well as to analyze in more detail the reconstructed buildings.
