Chrome OS 103 improves interaction between Chromebook and Android with these new features

Google has started to unfold Chrome OS 103 among the entire user base of chrome book with new functions to improve the synergy between these devices and Android, such as direct access to mobile photos and the possibility of sharing the connection with the latter.

The Mountain View company announced several features to promote collaboration between Android and Chromebook during this year’s CES and I/O conferences, as Google recalls in its blog statement. Now, some of these functions are starting to be rolled out.

The first function is the integrated control center that transfers the main functions of the ‘smartphone’ to the Chromebook, Phone Hub. This tool was launched in March 2021 and, from now on, includes direct access from the Chromebook to the latest photos taken from the mobile, even when the device is not connected to the Internet.

The image will automatically appear in the ‘recent photos’ folder of the ‘app’, and the user can download it and subsequently, attach it to a document or email.

The company has also started rolling out Screencast, an application that allows “record, trim, and share auto-uploaded transcribed videos to Google Drive.”

SHARE CONNECTION BETWEEN DEVICES

In August 2020, Google rolled out Nearby Share, a tool similar to Apple’s AirDrop that allows the user to transfer files between Android and Chrome OS devices over Bluetooth and WiFi.

With Chrome OS 103, the user can connect a Chromebook to any Wi-Fi network saved on their Android device thanks to Nearby Share. This speeds up both your own connection and that of your family, friends and colleagues, with whom you can share your Internet connection more easily. Also, the connection will be saved on the device for the next time.

The technology company has also implemented an improvement to speed up the incorporation of new employees in a company by allowing share files up to ten times faster than before with Nearby Share, according to their own estimates.

FAST PAIR, THE NEXT THING TO COME TO THE ECOSYSTEM

Chrome OS 103 will also bring with it at the end of the summer Fast Pair, a solution that makes it easy to sync wireless headphones and other compatible accessories to your Chromebook.

The company notes that this feature will allow the Chromebook to automatically detect an accessory via Bluetooth. Next, a pop-up notification will be displayed that will connect the device with a single touch.

Google claims that Fast Pair will be compatible with “hundreds of different models of headphones”. Additionally, the connection will be saved to the user’s Google account, allowing the Chromebook to automatically pair with the wireless accessory in the future.
