Cybercriminals make off with $100 million in cryptocurrencies

Cybercrime has dealt a serious blow by taking no less than US $ 100 million in cryptocurrencies, after hacking Horizona blockchain bridge.

Harmony, the blockchain startup behind Horizon, reported that the theft was discovered on Thursday night. Now it is investigated with forensic specialists and police forces in the hope of locating the criminals.

On the other hand, Harmony also indicated that its separate bridge used for bitcoin was not affected by the attack and that its funds and assets are safe. “The entire team is working as investigations continue,” Harmony wrote on Twitter. “We will keep everyone updated as we investigate this further and get more information.”

It is not the first time that Horizon has been affected by the hack. Cybercriminals struck in March, taking some $620 million in cryptocurrency from a network used to process in-game transactions for Axie Infinity, one of the NFT video games.
