Virtual reality: this was the predecessor that Sony launched in the mid-90s

It took many years for it to be possible to speak of virtual reality and augmented reality, as something more everyday. Today it is easier to find glasses on the market that transport you to virtual spaces, at any time.

One of the predecessors of this technology was the Glasstron, which Sony brought to the market since 1996, for a short period, and which can now be found on Internet sales pages as an object full of nostalgia. For example, on eBay the glasses can reach S / 1,066.

The models that went on sale were PLM-50, PLM-A35, PLM-A55, PLM-100 and PLM-S700, reported the Infobae website. They were quite large glasses that included headphones and a battery for volume and brightness control.

On the other hand, the operation of this technology was between virtual reality and augmented reality. How did it work? It gave a binocular vision so that it is assimilated as a single image. In this way, the user had the impression of looking at a 52-inch high-resolution screen.

The product only continued until 1998. It did not have much acceptance, due to how complicated its performance was. There was no wireless system at that time and the glasses had to be connected to a computer.

Today there are more models, linked above all to video games, such as the Oculus Quest 2, Pico Neo 3 Link, HP Reverb 2, Valve Index or the HTC Vive Pro 2, to name just a few products. But it has also been used in engineering, education, even medicine.
