Netflix will soon have ads: what is known about its “cheap plan” that will include advertising (price and features)

Netflix has already confirmed that it is working on a new plan that will include ads, but will cost less. The streaming giant wants to attract more audiences and will try this possible solution to the drop in their numbers. Learn everything that is known about this “cheap plan”, its price and features.

Ted Sarandos, co-CEO and director of Content at Netflix, announced the novelty within the framework of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity at the end of June. “We are adding a level of advertising; we are not adding ads to Netflix as you know it today. We are adding a level of announcements for people that says: ‘Hey, I want a lower price and I’ll see ads’“, he pointed.

Likewise, Reed Hastings, another coCEO of the platform, had already indicated that they were thinking of including advertising. “It’s not a short-term solution, because once you start offering a lower-priced plan with ads as an option, some consumers take it.. And we have a large installed base that is probably very happy where it is.“, he claimed.

Thus, Netflix I would introduce a plan, at least with ads. Being cheaper than the rest, they hope to have more reach with users who cannot pay for their other plans, but do want to access their catalog. The change is drastic, because for many years the company had given up on putting in place a plan of this type. Thanks to the big drop in his current numbers, he has even reduced his payroll by 3% after a drop in his investments.

It is not the first streaming service that carries out this type of plan. HBO Max, for example, has one that contains advertising for users who cannot pay the principal. Also, according to the same company, Disney + also plans to implement a plan with announcements by the end of this year or the beginning of 2023.

How much will Netflix’s “cheap plan” cost?

The company has not yet revealed an official figure for what its ad-supported plan could cost.. Nor has it indicated if there will be more than one, accommodating each plan that the streaming service already has available. There are currently three plans for users: basic, standard and premium.

These have limitations. The basic plan can only have one active screen with Netflix at the same time, for example, or that you don’t have access to HD or Ultra HD quality. For its part, the standard has up to two screens active at the same time and access to HD quality. Only the premium plan has 4 screens active at the same time and all other benefits.

The prices of these plans vary depending on the country in which the user is located.. In the United States, the plans cost $9.99, $15.49, and $19.99, respectively. In Peru, the cheapest plan, the basic one, costs S/. 24.90; the standard, S/. 34.90; and the premium, S/. 44.90. That is, the prices for our country are much cheaper than those of the company’s country of origin.

Yes Netflix charged the same price, from the United States, of the basic plan in Peru, this would end up costing the user approximately S/. 38. That is, S/. 13 more than what a Peruvian user currently pays. In the case of the premium, this would cost more than S /. 77.
