Google Hangouts: why did it stop working on some devices?

The messaging app Google Hangouts has ceased to be operational for some users of iOS Y Androiddespite its final closure is scheduled to take place next November.

Hangouts is a cross-platform instant messaging service offered by Google and launched in 2013, free of charge (you only need a Google account to use it), which allows you to make both voice and video calls.

As published by 9to5Google, this pop-up window acts as a forced warning for the user to migrate their conversations to Google Chat or its integrated version in Gmail, since once said screen appears, users will no longer be able to access the classic version of Hangouts on devices mobiles.

This portal has pointed out that the first phase of the closure of Hangouts is being carried out first in older versions of the ‘app’ that have not received support or updates in “several years”.

Finally, it has indicated that, in addition to iOS and Android, Google is disabling the Hangouts Chrome desktop extension and, throughout this month, the classic version of this service will stop working in the Gmail sidebar.
