Smart Home: Samsung and Google Partner for Easy Setup with Matter

Samsung Y Google announced a new partnership that will enable easier setup for Matter-enabled devices in Samsung SmartThings and Google Home systems.

At the Samsung Developers Conference in San Francisco, the Korean tech giant said it will update its SmartThings app in the coming months so users can onboard Matter-enabled devices even if they’re set up in the Google ecosystem and vice versa.

Matter is a universal connection protocol that can be used by those devices compatible with it for its operation on all types of platforms. In this way, if you buy a smart bulb, you will no longer have to worry about whether it is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and other ecosystems. As long as it is compatible with Matter, it will work on any platform.

Last week, the Connectivity Standards Alliance, the consortium behind Matter, officially approved the first set of specifications for developers to apply for certification of their solutions.

According to TechCrunch, Samsung said it is using Matter’s multi-management capabilities to make compatible devices are easy to find and control in different applications. Once the company updates the SmartThings apps, users can view Matter-enabled devices that were set up in the Google ecosystem and then import them into the Samsung ecosystem and vice versa. In this way, users will be able to control these devices from the Samsung SmartThings app or the Google Home app.
