An Indianapolis man claims his Apple Watch 8 saved his life after crashing his car into a pole. Nolan Abell crashed his vehicle on October 15 while driving early in the morning and was able to get medical help due to the crash detection feature of his smartwatch.
“If it wasn’t for this watch, who knows how long it would have taken for them to help me.. Someone would have found me eventually, but this brought EMS [Servicio médico de emergencia] for me in five minutes”, Abell said in an interview with ABC News.

According to Apple, this feature directly contacts emergency services. “If your iPhone or Apple Watch detects a serious car accident, your device can help connect you to emergency services. Crash detection is designed to detect serious car crashes, such as front, side, and rear crashes, and rollovers, involving sedans, minivans, SUVs, pickup trucks, and other passenger cars”, assures the company.
“When a serious car accident is detected, your iPhone or Apple Watch sounds an alarm and displays an alert”, adds Apple. Behind this, the user has 20 seconds to cancel the help request. Otherwise, a recording will automatically request medical assistance.

Abell notes that he felt haptic feedback from the Apple Watch and heard a voice asking if he was there.. After 5 minutes of waiting, the emergency services arrived at the accident area and managed to give medical attention to the affected person.
The shock detection function is also one of the new features of the iPhone 14. This also alerted the authorities of a vehicle crash in recent weeks, but unfortunately there were no survivors after the strong impact, despite the fact that one person was taken to the hospital. The accident was one of the first palpable signs of the effectiveness of the function.
