Epic Games will “turn off” the online servers of some of its older video games

Epic Games has begun shutting down the online servers for some of its older titles, a move that it hopes will continue to power its free cross-platform Epic Online Services.

The company has insisted that “most titles will be playable offline”but what others will stop being available completely as of next January 24. This is the case of Unreal Tournament (Alpha), Rock Band Blitz, Rock Band Companion and SingSpace.

Although it will not be until then when these servers will be closed, the company has stressed that it has already begun to remove the affected titles and to disable support for in-game DLC purchases.

It has done so in order to focus on Epic online Services, that offers “a unified buddy system, voice chat features, parental controls, and parental verification features”as explained in a statement.

Other video games present certain particularities in this disconnection process. For example, Hatoful Boyfriend and HatofulBoyfriend: Holiday Star are no longer available for download for Mac and Linux. However, users who have already purchased them will be able to continue playing them.

The server of Battle Breakers, for its part, will no longer be available on December 30. In this case, Epic Games has indicated that it will automatically refund all purchases made through direct payment in the 180 days prior to the announcement of this closure.

On the other hand, Epic Games has indicated that all the online services of a series of video games will be disabled as of January 24but that players will be able to continue playing offline in either single player or local multiplayer.

This is the case of 1000 Tiny Claws, Green Day: Rock Band, Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess, The Beatles: Rock BandUnreal Gold, Unreal II: The Awakening, Unreal Tournament 2003/2004/3 and Game of the Year Edition, among others.
