Netflix will start charging shared accounts starting in 2023

Netflix It plans to start charging shared accounts at the beginning of 2023, a move that it had already anticipated that it would make despite being aware that users of the streaming content platform will not like it.

shared accounts have become a problem for Netflix as the platform’s subscribers declined. It is a phenomenon for which a user pays a subscription, generally the premium one since it supports several simultaneous devices, and gives access to it to other people nearby, with whom they share the costs.

Throughout this year the company has announced and introduced different measures that anticipated the end of shared accounts, such as a new, more affordable subscription plan with adsthe possibility of transferring a profile to a new account or charging the owner an extra for each additional member who uses it as a sub-account.

Netflix will start next year asking people who share an account to pay to continue accessing the content. And it hopes to do so in early 2023 in the United States, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

However, the company knows that users will not be satisfied with this change. In a meeting with investors in early December, Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos has already made it clear that the users were not going to like the idea but that the company had to make sure that they understood the value of paying for the service.
