Bill Gates has acknowledged that holding onto an obscene amount of money can make you feel a little out of touch with what’s going on in the world.

The billionaire philanthropist took time off from running his foundation to answer questions from Reddit users on topics like climate change, ChatGPT, and what smartphone he’s currently using.

When Gates was teased about the current world inequality, he was realistic.

“As for the very wealthy, I think they should pay a lot more taxes and give away their wealth over time. It gives me great satisfaction and it’s my full-time job,” he said.

When asked whether or not there could be “ethical billionaires,” the Microsoft co-founder replied, “Being rich can easily lead to falling behind.

“I still think the incentive to start new businesses is good. Even if taxes go up, I wouldn’t ban anyone from being worth a billion, but that’s just an opinion. I was very lucky.”

In recent years, Gates has committed to tackling the climate crisis by investing in clean energy companies and trying to limit his own carbon emissions. He even wrote a book about it.

“It’s important to remember that life in poor countries is difficult right now,” he replied when asked about the status of global climate action.

“There are parts of the world where more than 10% of children die before the age of 5 and where more than 30% are malnourished, preventing the full development of their brains and bodies. Climate will slow down the progress we are making in improving human conditions, but I still believe we can avoid a terrible outcome.

“The pace of innovation is really picking up, even if we don’t meet current timelines or avoid going over 1.5.”

Fortunately, not all issues revolved around geopolitics and inequality. Bill also revealed that he enjoys using a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Android smartphone and surprisingly still finds some time to play with computer code.

“I like playing and coding. The last time my code was shipped in a Microsoft product was 1985, so a long time ago.

“I can no longer threaten if I find a schedule too long that I’ll come and code it over the weekend.”
