Google plans to migrate the Calendar and Reminders apps to Tasks

Google has announced that it will begin the migration of Calendar and Reminders to Google Tasks “to create a unique experience for managing to-dos on Google”a process that will open for users in March.

Google Tasks is an application that allows you to keep track of daily tasks, organize them into various lists, and control due dates. This service also syncs across all devices that are logged in with a Google account. This app can be accessed from Workspace services like Gmail, Calendar, and Chat.

The company announced this procedure in September 2022, when it indicated that it would make available to users “an easy way to view and manage all your to-dos” through this service, regardless of whether they were created through the Google Assistant or Calendar.

Then, he also warned that in the coming months, certain users would see a notification on their phone or computer asking them to be one of the first to try this new Google Tasks experience.

Google has now announced that Google Calendar and Reminders will migrate “soon” to this other application and that, unlike the latter, this change will allow the creation of tasks from Tasks itself or from Gmail, Docs and Chat.

Google Workspace customers with Tasks they will be able to migrate their contents voluntarily to this application from April 12. Users with personal accounts, on the other hand, will receive a notification indicating the possibility of migration from March 6.

For Google Workspace customers, it will be from May 22, 2023 when the Assistant and Calendar reminders begin their automatic migration to Tasks. On the other hand, it has qualified that the deletion of Reminders data will begin as of June 22, 2023.

On the contrary, the reminders created in Keep will not be migrated to Tasks and will continue to be available in this other application, with the difference that they will no longer be displayed in Google Calendar after the data migration is complete.

This change affects all Google Workspace customers, legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers, as well as users with personal Google accounts.
