Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and one of the creators of ChatGPT, has indicated that AI could be scary in the future, especially at the rate at which it is being developed. Through a series of tweets, the engineer also affirms that the artificial intelligence it must be regulated.
“A transition like this is mostly good and something can happen quickly. The transition from the pre-smartphone world to the post-smartphone world is a recent example. But, it will be tempting to go super fast, which is scary – society needs time to adjust to something that bigAltman says.

This includes misuse or incorrect information that the AI might give. “There will be more challenges like bias (we don’t want ChatGPT to be for or against either policy by default, but if you want either then it should be for you – I’m working on this now) and people will leave talking to a chatbot uneasy, even if they know what’s really going on”, he adds.

Although the CEO of OpenAI affirms that this technology is very relevant, it also has its downside. “We believe that showing these tools to the world early on, even if they’re still a bit broken, is critical if we’re going to have enough input and repeat efforts to get it right. The level of individual empowerment to come is wonderful, but not without serious challenges.“, Add.

Likewise, Altman indicates that artificial intelligence should be regulated because its progress is currently exponential. “We also need enough time for our institutions to decide what to do. Regulation will be critical and it will take time to figure it out. While current generation AI tools aren’t terribly scary, I think we’re potentially not that far off from scary ones.”, he concludes.

Altman isn’t the only person connected to OpenAI who says AI should be regulated.. Mira Murati, CTO of the company and also co-creator of ChatGPT, has pointed out that it is not too early for her to do so. Elon Musk, the company’s co-founder, has even labeled AI “one of the biggest risks to the future of civilization.”
