Baidu has presented this Thursday its own chatbot Ernie based on Artificial intelligence (AI), which ensures that it offers capabilities very similar to the model GPT-4 developed by Open AI although, for the moment, its use is limited to the Chinese market.

This Asian search engine has been investing in AI technology for various sectors, with the aim of implementing it in cloud services, chips and even smart driving services.

At the end of January Bloomberg announced that this Internet search engine based in Beijing (China) planned to launch an integrated chatbot service in March. The Wall Street Journal, for its part, indicated that it would arrive this Thursday under the name of Ernie Bot and that, at that time, it showed “difficulties performing some basic functions”.

Baidu has presented its service at an event in Beijing (China) this Thursday, alluding to the fact that Ernie refers to the acronym for Improved Representation through Knowledge Integration and has stressed that it has been developing it for the last decade.

The technology manufacturer has announced that, for the moment, this chatbot service is not open to the general public and is focused on users in the Chinese market for reasons such as the language it uses.

During the presentation, the CEO of Baidu, Robin Li, assured that it is a bot that has capabilities that are close to those presented by OpenAI with its new generation of the GPT 4 language model, which it launched last Tuesday.

Specifically, he has indicated that the chatbot has 550 billion pieces of data in its knowledge storage that “they guarantee that their answers will be correct”. However, these data are also focused on the Chinese market, so some responses may be limited to information focused on this region.

Another of the capabilities that this AI model has exemplified has been choose a slogan for a companybased on a description of the company’s functions and what its objectives were.

According to the CEO of Baidu, a total of 650 companies have already registered to use ERNIE’s technology, although, for the moment, only those that have received a prior invitation will have access to it.
