WhatsApp for Windows: video calls will allow up to eight participants and will have E2E encryption

Meta has announced the launch of WhatsApp for Windows, an application of the instant messaging platform for computers with said operating system, which allows end-to-end (E2E) encrypted video calls with up to eight people and audio calls with up to 32 participants.

The company is aware that “hundreds of millions of people use WhatsApp on computers and tablets”so it has focused its efforts on to “further” improve the messaging and calling experienceas explained in a statement.

In this way, it has launched the new desktop WhatsApp application for Windows, which has been designed with an interface very similar to the one already presented by the web option. In it, for the moment, E2E group video calls can be arranged with up to eight people and audio calls with up to 32 participants.

Meta has not ruled out expanding these limits and has indicated that, “with the passage of time”, will allow a greater number of users so that they can be in contact with family and friends without restrictions.

With this, he recalled that, after collecting user opinions, he has introduced new features for multiple devices. Among them, one higher speed to pair devices and better synchronization of theseas well as new features such as link preview and ‘stickers’.

He has also said that has introduced a new WhatsApp experience in beta version for tablets with Android operating system and that it will launch a new, faster app for Mac computers, which is currently in its early stages of beta.
