YouTube Music adds a timer to schedule when to stop playing songs

Youtube music is adding a timer tool in the ‘Now Playing’ tab to automatically turn off or suspend song playback after a user-defined amount of time, without the user having to do it manually.

This tool was released in July of last year by 9to5Google, after analyzing the APK Insight version of the YouTube streaming music player application. After that, the sleep timer function was introduced in the ‘app’ along with podcast support in an Android update in March.

Now, Google is starting to roll it out generally for all types of playback within YouTube Music. In other words, it will no longer only be among the podcast playback options, but it has also been included in the ‘Now playing’ music tab to set a time limit for song playback.

This has been pointed out by a user through a Reddit publication, who has had access to this function by displaying the options menu within the ‘Now playing’ tab located last as ‘Sleep timer’ (suspension timer) accompanied by of an icon of a moon with a ‘z’.

In this way, users can choose the moment in which they want the app to stop playing content automatically, without the need for intervention. It is a very useful tool in the case of, for example, using music to sleep. With the timer, users who use this practice to fall asleep can prevent music from playing throughout the night or have to turn it off themselves.

However, as reported by 9to5Google, this function is still being implemented, so at the moment only some users have access to it.
