Some time ago, there was a Spanish website on the internet Direct Red call that allowed sports lovers to access any game of any sport for free, without the need to register. Also, on the home page were all available sports broadcasts along with the broadcast time.

Likewise, it had a search engine so that the user could check if a certain game was going to be available through this platform. By not charging to view the content, this website made money by placing advertising from the main bookmakers around the world. Also, they had a forum, in which it was necessary to register, to access summaries of the matches already broadcast.

trouble with the law

On the Internet, this page could be found through the domains rojadirecta.com. rojadirecta.org, rojadirecto.es, rojadirecta.me and rojadirecta.in. However, in 2011, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) closed the .com and .org domains, despite not having jurisdiction to do so and anticipating the Spanish authorities.

Back then, this website sued the United States Department of Justice, as they did not have the right to block them. In August 2012, DOJ withdrew the lawsuit and returned both domains to them, which were back in business shortly after.

the full closure

After a few years, in October 2016, the administrator of Rojadirecta was arrested by the authorities for infringing intellectual property rights.. However, shortly after he was released. The website continued to function while the judicial process progressed, but in November of the same year the court forced them to stop broadcasting football matches, either live or delayed, due to the lawsuit filed by Mediapro, the owner of the rights to the soccer at the time.

In February 2017, the Commercial Court N1 of Coruña ordered the total closure of the Rojadirecta website and they also had to pay compensation to Movistar+, Mediapro’s partner.

Today, on the web you can find several sites with the name Rojadirecta, however, they are not the original ones. For these inconveniences with the law, the founder was sentenced to a two-year prison sentence, he also had 18 months of disqualification from working in any IT sector and had to pay a fine of 500,000 euros.
