Sam Altman, Shou Zi Chew and Elon Musk among the 100 most influential people of 2023, according to Time

Time magazine published its list of 100 most influential people in the worldfor 2023, in which there was no shortage of personalities dedicated to technological development, whether in the field of social networks, video games and obtaining clean energy.

The list is divided into six blocks (Artists, Innovators, Titans, Leaders, Icons and Pioneers) where you can see the names of actors, singers, writers, soccer players, scientists, businessmen, politicians, developers, of different nationalities.

In the field of pioneers appears the name of Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, who in recent months has attracted the world’s gaze with the development of artificial intelligence (AI) with ChatGPT.

“Sam foresaw that the exponential curve of technological progress would culminate in the most powerful tool ever created: artificial general intelligence (AGI) . He saw a tool that could do immense good but, in the wrong hands, could become a destructive weapon.”wrote businessman Brian Chesky for the magazine.

And it is the latter that has raised doubts about the development of AI. So much so that a group of personalities from technological development wrote an open letter asking for a pause in the tests. On the other hand, countries such as Italy, France and Spain are evaluating bans on the use of ChatGPT for fear of possible privacy violations.

Another prominent name is that of Elon Musk, already known in the world for his peculiar personality. The billionaire is the founder of several companies: Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, in addition to OpenAI itself, and recently acquired the social network Twitter, at the end of 2022.

This last move has not given him much satisfaction. Twitter has withstood a wave of layoffs, changes in its structure and operation, and millions in losses. “The scope of the pain (for the purchase) has been extremely high, this has not been some kind of party,” and “it has not been boring,” Musk added in an interview with the BBC.

It has even been considered as a spy app. In that context, the BBC has asked all its staff to remove the Chinese social network from their corporate phones due to a “privacy and security” fear. She also faces a $29 million lawsuit in Britain after being accused by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) of failing to protect children’s privacy.

But not only they appear on Time’s payroll. There is also Hidetaka Mayazaki, a Japanese video game designer and president of FromSoftware, a company founded in 1986. With his work, Miyazaki stands out for the creation of games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring.

The name of Andrea Kritcher is also appreciated. She is an American nuclear engineer and physicist working on the search for unlimited renewable energy. This has led her to achieve the first controlled fusion ignition in December 2022.
