Meta wants users to use their real names to verify accounts (some consider this a danger)

Goal has introduced a new verification system for its users. The subscription, which has a value of 15 dollars a month in the United States, has not been well received by all users, as some believe that the condition of using their real name could put them in danger.

The new proposal from the company led by Mark Zuckerberg is called Goal Verified and it came out a month ago. Subscribers receive a verification badge with which they can protect themselves from identity theft. To do this, they must provide a selfie video and official identification.

However, one of the conditions of this service has aroused concern among users, especially between the sex workers and members of the LGBTI community.

Goal requires that the names of the subscribers must match the one that is read on the identification document. The company will not allow name changes that do not match the document provided. In case this is not fulfilled, the subscription will be canceled and the account will lose its verification badge.

Some content creators don’t think this is safe. Abigail Mac, creator of OnlyFans, expressed to the medium TechCrunch your disagreement. “By putting your name out there, fans can now go online and search, ‘Where did this person grow up? Where do they live now?points out.

Some users have made their annoyance known on social networks, such as Twitter. “Hey @Meta. I don’t want to dox myself just to get verified on Instagram. Can we change this to give up my government name that I don’t use at all beyond my driver’s license? Thank you”expressed one of them.

TechCrunch spoke with a Meta spokesperson and said that the company aims to improve its safety standards and at the same time they consider assessing the requirements to soften them. The company, however, has not set a timeline for this rule change.
