This is the curious reason why Steve Jobs refused to include the calculator on the iPad

The calculator, one of the essential and most used tools in electronic devices, including those of Manzanacannot yet be used in the iPad. The reason behind this is quite curious.

In 2010, when the first iPad was launched on the market, Steve Jobs asked to see it before its official announcement and noticed the calculator application that was included in that prototype. He concluded that it was simply a resized version of the iPhone calculator.

A month before the official launch, the CEO of Apple asked his team of engineers to redesign it or else the iPad would be announced without a calculator. However, it seems that Jobs did not like the new design very much, since thirteen years later, the iPad still lacks a calculator.

Two years ago, Craig Federighi, who was still Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, gave an interview to YouTuber Marques Brownlee on his YouTube channel. There they asked him about the curious subject of the iPad calculator, and Federighi clarified the matter that had been discussed so much.

“There are some things we haven’t done because we’d like to do something really special. We want to do very well. And honestly, we have not found a way to do it ”explained the American engineer.

Apparently, the problem lies in aesthetics, since it would have to be a full-screen application with large numbers, which does not fit the design style established by the California-based company.
