The competition to the lithium ion battery? Toyota has been working on a project that would be the reason why it has not fully ventured into the current electric cars. These are solid electrolyte batteries.
And it is that recharging is the main problem for electrified vehicles, which is why the Japanese manufacturer hopes to bring the solid electrolyte battery to the market by 2027.

The advantage of this new technology is that it would give the possibility of having autonomies of up to 1,500 kilometers and charging powers for the batteries in just 10 minutes, reports the media Somos Eléctricos. With this, it is already quite different from lithium batteries.
However, it also has some problems to overcome, such as the useful life of the product, which is less than the current one. According to specialists, a battery can last up to eight years. Another problem is its high cost.
The report notes that for the solid electrolyte battery, the price is between US$430 and US2,500 per kWh, which is higher than lithium-ion batteries.
The Japanese brand’s strategy could be to first install these batteries in exclusive and luxury models, while the price of materials falls and it can be expanded to other more massive models.
