Netflix eliminates in Canada the Basic subscription, the cheapest without ads

Netflix has decided to withdraw the Basic subscription in Canada, leaving users one less option to choose from and limiting the cheapest option to the one that includes advertising content.

The technology company sees in the Standard plan with ads one of the pillars that will promote the growth of users and income of the streaming content platform. In Spain, it is available from November 2022, and has a cost of 5.49 euros per month. Although it has a limited catalog, supports full HD playback (1080p). In Peru, the basic plan with ads is not yet available.

Netflix has decided to remove this last Basic plan from the options it offers to users in Canada, where it is priced at $9.99. This no longer appears for new subscribers and in the near future it will also disappear for existing users that they have hired him, as a spokesperson has confirmed to The Canadian Press.

In this way, new users of the platform will have to choose between the Standard plan with ads ($5.99), as the cheapest option, and the following two options: Standard ($16.49) or Premium (20.99 Dollars).

In Spain, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has recently filed a complaint with Consumption “because of the misleading way” with which Netflix shows its contract offers. This is because the Basic plan does not appear detailed on the subscription plans screen, and to see it you have to look and click on the ‘See all plans’ button.
