Kaynemaile, the invention that will end air conditioning and is inspired by The Lord of the Rings

Necessity forces to be ingenious. As if he had prepared for this heat wave which is lived in various parts of the world, this invention is going around the world because it could retire air conditioning. Furthermore, it is inspired by The Lord of the rings.

This is the Kaynemaile, a mesh that aims to cool buildings without consuming more electricity. This is achieved by blocking 70% of solar radiation and only letting air through to keep the environment cool.

Its design dates back hundreds of years, when warriors used chain mail, made up of several rings to protect themselves from the edge of swords.

What characterizes this mesh, according to the El Español page, is that, being a lightweight mesh, it blocks 70% of the sun and allows 80% of the air to flow through the roof of the buildings, reducing the temperature up to 12 degrees.

And what is the relationship with The Lord of the Rings? Well, the invention was created by Kayne Horsham, who was the artistic director of Creatures, Armor and Weapons of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Horsham created this clothing and adapted it to the Cinema, to have an injection molding process to mass produce lightweight polycarbonate chainmail. Following the recordings, Horsham spent seven years researching and in 2017 patented an injection molding process that allowed him to mass-produce this lightweight chain mail.

How does it work? The Kaynemaile allows natural light to enter and manages to manage passive solar gain within the building envelope without sacrificing visual transparency.
