YouTube tests a function to double the speed of videos by holding the screen

Youtube is testing a new feature to double the speed of video playback, an option that requires users to simply hold the device screen while the content is playing.

Until now, to change the playback speed users have to open the video options menu, select the ‘Playback speed’ tab and finally choose the desired playback option. You can choose between 0.25, which is the slowest option, and x2, which is the fastest.

However, the video platform has begun testing a new feature to easy way to double the speed content faster and more directly. This new feature, which works like a shortcut, is useful for content like podcasts or if, for example, you want to watch a long video in summary mode.

This has been presented by Google through its experimental functions page for Premium subscribers, in which it explains that, to use this new function, the user you must press and hold “any point on the player” while watching a video to “watch it automatically at double speed”.

As it is an experimental function, At the moment only some subscribers to its paid version have access to itwhich will be able to continue testing it temporarily until August 13.

YouTube has also started testing a new feature for video previews. In this case, preview thumbnail size has been expanded that appears when you move forward or backward through the timeline of a video.

By having a larger image, users will be able to more easily find a specific moment in the video. This is a feature that is also part of YouTube’s experiments for Premium subscribers, and it will also be available until August 13.

It should be remembered that YouTube has also been testing other new features recently, such as the screen lock to prevent accidental interruptions in the reproduction of the videos when touching the screen of the mobile device. This feature has also been released as an experimental feature for YouTube Premium users who can try it out until July 30.

On the other hand, the Google platform is introducing a new ‘Stable Volume’ option -or stable volume-, with which playback volume is intelligently regulatedso that users do not have to experience sudden volume rises and falls.
