Electric trucks, robots, artificial intelligence, augmented reality: what would the mining of the future be like?

The technology It is setting a new course in all areas of our lives, in the professional, educational, and work fields, also motivated by climate changes and other needs of the population. And what happens with the mining?

Regarding the Perumin 36 mining convention, which will be held in Arequipa, the trends have been pointed out to make mining digital, connected and decarbonized. It is where it is aimed, so the ABB company will explain to the public what the mine of the future will be like.

These changes materialize in the use of electric trucks, robots, intelligent control centers that allow the mine to be operated remotely, also using Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality.

All these technologies seek solutions that generate energy and maintenance savings, and that aim to achieve zero carbon emissions, the company reported. It is expected that more than 60 thousand visitors will be able to learn about this diversity of applications.

Through the use of Augmented Reality and a holographic table, you can interact with digital and automation technologies; You will also learn how Artificial Intelligence is applied, which transforms data into information that improves operations; in addition to robotic solutions.

But an important detail is electrification. For this, it is noted that one of the novelties is the Trolley system, which electrifies mining trucks so that they depend less on diesel. And just one electric truck can reduce 198 thousand tons of CO2 per day, the amount absorbed by more than 46 thousand trees.

This is achieved with infrastructure, such as the one that will be shown: a charger for electric trucks with a capacity of up to 100 tons and an autonomy of up to 6 hours. This is how, through electrification and digital systems, we will seek to accelerate the decarbonization of the mining sector.
