YouTube to remove ad-free Premium Lite subscription plan on October 25 this year

YouTube has reported that starting October 25, 2023, its YouTube Premium Lite subscription plan, which allowed you to watch videos without advertising in some European countries, will no longer be available to users.

The video platform presented the option YouTube Premium Lite in 2021 as a cheaper subscription than YouTube Premiumwith which it allowed View content without interruption from ads. However, this plan was advertised at a lower cost because it did not include features such as downloading for offline listening or background playback.

Thus, YouTube Premium Lite was launched with a price of 6.99 euros monthly in some European countries such as Belgium, Denmark, Finland, LuxembourgNetherlands, Norway and Sweden.

Now, the company has reported that the Users will no longer have access to this subscription plan after October 25, 2023, as YouTube has notified through an email sent to subscribers, to which The Verge has had access.

In this framework, users who had the Premium Lite version must opt ​​for a Premium plan subscription –which costs 11.99 euros per month– or use the free version of YouTube with ads.

However, in said email YouTube has explained that They continue working on “different versions of Premium Lite” in which they are incorporating comments from users, creators and partners, to improve the experience.

In addition, YouTube has also offered subscribers of the Premium Lite version a One-month free trial for YouTube Premium.
