Tesla acknowledged in its report that the controls placed on its assisted driving system “may not be sufficient to prevent improper use by the driver.”

This is not the first time that “Autopilot”, Tesla’s assisted driving system, has been questioned in relation to accidents. In 2021, NHTSA began an evaluation process to investigate 11 accidents involving first aid vehicles and Tesla cars in which the assisted driving system was activated.
