WhatsApp is working on new verification badges so that companies and businesses that use its Business version can introduce them into their channels and thus reinforce their authenticity and reliability.

Channels is a service of the Meta messaging platform that allows both content creators, organizations and individuals to transmit information in a unidirectional way and receive the latest news from their environment, directly in the ‘app’ and privately.

Some of these channels introduce a green badge next to the contact name. This means that Meta has confirmed that these accounts really belong to the person or user they claim to be as long as this account is linked to their other services.

To expand the verification options and bring them to WhatsApp Business users, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a few months ago the extension of ‘verified companies’ to WhatsApp by subscribing to Meta Verified, a monthly payment format with functions additional features that until then were only available to Facebook and Instagram content creators.

WABetaInfo has now discovered that WhatsApp is working on a new optional feature so that users of the platform can also verify their company channels, as shown in the latest beta of WhatsApp for Android 2.24.1.18.

If this option is chosen, both the channel name and profile photo will be modified to match the company’s verified details and “prevent impersonation and improper use of the verification system.” Likewise, it has pointed out that these details can be edited through the business profile.

The feature that allows you to add a verified badge to channels is in development and will come to the Android version of the app with a future update. At the moment, it is unknown if it will also be extended to iOS.
