WhatsApp will no longer allow you to capture profile photos

WhatsApp is working on a new feature for terminals with the Android operating system that will prevent platform users from taking screenshots of other people’s profile photos.

The company has been developing options for months that reinforce security and privacy protection on the platform, with advances such as silencing calls from strangers or forecasts as a new option that introduces the possibility of configuring an alternative profile.

One of its latest updates implements a new security function to block screenshots of other users’ profile photos, as WABetaInfo has seen in the latest beta version for Android 2.24.4.25.

This portal has recalled that five years ago WhatsApp removed the option that allowed users to save profile photos from other people, a measure that has somehow protected the user’s privacy.

However, being able to continue taking screenshots of profile photos allowed users to obtain and share images without the consent or knowledge of these contacts, violating this security premise.

Therefore, it is going to solve it with a function that, when trying to take a screenshot of a profile photo, the application will show a notification indicating that the action has been blocked and that “a screenshot cannot be taken due to the application restrictions.

This feature is now available to some beta testers who install the latest WhatsApp beta updates for Android from the Google Play Store and will reach more people in the coming weeks.
