MWC 2024: Lenovo presents a laptop with a 17.3-inch transparent screen

Lenovo has shown its transparent laptop concept, called Lenovo ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept, which equips a MicroLED screen with a size of 17.3 inches and reaches a maximum peak brightness of 1,000 nits.

The company has presented this device within the framework of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, ​​where it has shared other news from the laptop section, with the new ThinkPad T14 and T16, as well as the ThinkBook 14 2 in 1, with Intel Core Ultra processors .

Along with this new hardware, the firm has also commented on news related to its software, which includes Lenovo Identity Advisor, a digital identity monitoring tool, and Smart Connect, a software that unlocks multi-device synergies to maximize productivity.

The most notable novelty of this presentation has been the ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept computer with transparent panel, which incorporates a 17.3-inch transparent MicroLED screen that reaches a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, providing a borderless viewing experience .

This device, which we learned about a few weeks ago thanks to a preview of Windows Report, has a transparent keyboard area and does not include buttons, so it works as if it were two screens joined by a hinge.

The firm has commented that the keyboard can be easily changed to become a drawing canvas, which can be used with a compatible pen, to “unlock new levels of creative efficiency.”

NEW THINKPAD

On the other hand, the Chinese technology company has shown the latest generation of Lenovo business laptops: ThinkPad 14 i Gen 5, ThinkPad 14s Gen 5, ThinkPad T16 Gen 3, ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 3 and ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4.

Firstly, it has emphasized that this series prioritizes sustainability from design to end-of-life management, since its manufacturing uses recycled materials and promotes responsible sourcing.

In fact, two of them – ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and T16 Gen 3 – have been designed to be easier to repair, because they increase customer replaceable parts (CRU) to include the battery with a cableless connector, a DIMM design with ‘sockets’ and the replacement of SSD and WWAN.

Lenovo has commented that the new members of this family have the latest Intel Core Ultra processors with Intel vPro in some devices, as well as the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system, Windows 11.

ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 is built with Intel Cotre Ultra chips with Intel vPro and AMD Ryzen 8040, with up to 64GB DDR of RAM and 2TB PCIe Gen4x4 of internal storage. Additionally, it comes with a 14-inch 2.8K OLED display, which reaches a brightness of 400 nits.

With a Dolby Atmos sound system, it is manufactured with two speakers and two microphones, as well as a 93.9 Wh or 52.5 Wh battery. It also introduces a fingerprint reader or Match-onChip system on the keyboard, as well as a facial recognition camera compatible with Windows Hello.

Weighing 1.30 kg, it has the same features as the ThinkPad T26 Gen 3, such as an HDMI 2.1 port, compatibility with WiFi 6E and WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, 2 USB-A ports and two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt on Intel models.

This other device, on the other hand, has a weight of 1.63 kg, a screen of up to 16 inches 4K OLED with HDR True Black and EyeSafe technology and two battery formats, 52.5 Wh or 86 Wh.

ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 and ThinkPad 400 nits of brightness and a refresh rate of 120Hz.

With a Dolby Atmos and Dolby Voice sound system, it is equipped with two speakers and two microphones, as well as a 5MP front camera. The battery is 58Whr, in terms of ports, it has two USB-C, two USB-A, 1 HDMI 2.1, 1 Audio Combo and 1 Nano SIM.

ThinkPad The battery is 42Whr and, at the port level, in this case it includes a USB-C Thunderbolt 4, 1 USB-C 10 Gbps, 1 Audio Combo and 1 Nano SIM.

To finish the laptop section, the brand has presented ThinkBook 14 2 in 1 Gen 4, which incorporates Intel Core Ultra processors, has a memory of up to 64 GB DDR5 and PCIe SS with up to 2 TB of internal storage.

The screen is a 14-inch 16:10 ISP, 300 nits, with 100% sRGB coverage. The device also has 1 2W Harman speakers with Dolby Atmos and a 60 Wh battery, as well as ‘Match-on-Chip’ touch reader functions, support for WiFi 6E.

Finally, the ThinkVision M14t Gen 2 monitor has a 14-inch nearly borderless IPS panel, with a resolution of 2,240 x 1,400, 1500:1 contrast, 100% sRGB color coverage, a maximum peak brightness of 300 nits, and a 16:10 aspect ratio.

Its screen, which is touch and 10-point enabled with up to 4,096 levels of precision, also has a 60HZ refresh rate. In addition, its tilt angle can be adjusted (between -5 and +90 degrees) and it comes with TÜV Rheinland 2.0 certification.

PRICES AND AVAILABILITY

All of these laptops, with the exception of the Lenovo ThinkBook Concept prototype, will arrive next spring, starting with the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, which will be available from April 2024 with a starting price of 1,449 euros.

The next to land will be Lenovo ThinkPad T14 i Gen 5, which can be purchased from May 2024 for an initial price of 1,349 euros; Lenovo ThinkPad T16 Gen 3, for a price of 1,369 euros; and Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2, on sale for 1,399 euros.

Also this month will be the time to buy Lenovo ThinkBook 14 2 in Gen 4 (1,099 euros), while the Lenovo ThinkVision M14t Gen 2 touch monitor can be purchased from August with a starting price of 399 euros
