This Friday, on the occasion of the Paris-Saclay “Choose Science” summit, which takes place in Palaiseau (Essonne), a “world first” will be presented: the creation of “the world’s first circular organic data center”. It will be implemented in the form of an algae forest grown on the roofs of data centers collected since 2006 at the Marcoussis campus.

“Data centers are important players in the digital transition, but they also consume energy to run their servers,” admits Linda Lescuyer, innovation manager at Data4, operator of the Marcoussis campus and data centers in five European capitals. The idea is to find a way to recover this energy, converted by the servers into heat, to return it to the premises. »
