MacOS Monterey | What’s new in Apple’s operating system

From this Monday, users of Mac devices compatible with the new update of Apple they can download the latest version of their operating system for their computers, macOS Monterey.

This new version of the operating system, which Apple had already announced in June, has several functions accessible only to Mac models with Apple M1 chips, which do not reach the variants with Intel processors.

Among some of the functionalities it presents, limited only to Mac computers with Apple Silicon M1 processors, are news related to Safari and FaceTime, as well as others focused on the notification system, universal control and shortcuts.

For its part, FaceTime has developed new options, such as the spatial audio mode (360º sound), with which the voices sound as if they came from the place where the person is on the screen; as well as voice isolation mode and wide spectrum mode.

From now on, you can use SharePlay simultaneously with FaceTime while watching series and movies or listening to music as a way to share experiences remotely with users of other macOS devices.

What’s more, Safari has released a new, more compact design that adapts to the web the user is browsing and can be customized to your liking, by grouping tabs that can be synchronized with other brand computers.

One of the highlights of this update is called Universal Control. This allows you to operate your Mac or iPad by moving the cursor from one device to another. In this way, using the ‘trackpad’ of the iPad you can control the Mac and vice versa. What’s more, allows dragging files from one team to another.

Regarding notifications, macOS Monterey offers the possibility of filter these messages automatically depending on what the user is doing at the time they come through the so-called ‘Modes of Concentration’.

Another important novelty concerns the iOS shortcuts, automatisms to perform different tasks simultaneously by pressing a single button. With this update, they can be created, managed, and synced with other Apple devices.

The models that can be downloaded this update are: iMac (from 2015 onwards), iMac Pro (from 2017 onwards), MacBook Air (as of 2015), MacBook Pro (also from the same year), Mac Pro (from 2013 onwards), Mac mini (from 2014 onwards) and MacBook from the 2016 version.
