The app launches a “main streets” option to reassure pedestrians

Walking around the city at night can be difficult and stressful, especially when you take streets with little traffic. In order to reduce the fear of a possible assault, Citymapper, an application specializing in the calculation of routes in the city, offers a new functionality. Now, when indicating their destination, pedestrians can select the “main streets” option, which offers them a route that is supposed to be safer, as it passes through the widest, busiest and best-lit streets.

Longer, but less stressful

Admittedly, the journey is sometimes a little longer, but it allows you to avoid dark streets, squares or parks in particular. “Sometimes the shortest route isn’t the best… When it’s getting late and you want to use busier, better-lit streets. When you don’t know the neighborhood well and want the easiest route possible. Choose the option Main streets ”, prompts the application.

Another interesting novelty: it is now possible to share your position remotely with one or more relatives who can follow the route and have access to the estimated time of arrival. Citymapper hopes that these tools will make nighttime journeys in the city more serene.
