To be able to taste the appetizing dishes that you see on your small screen… A dream for many which will perhaps come true. Homei Miyashita, a scientist at Meiji University in Tokyo, invented a lick screen to experience the flavors of dishes seen on TV, Slate reports.
The expert presented his invention, dubbed “Taste the TV”, to journalists at a press conference. “The goal is to allow people to experience something like eating in a restaurant halfway around the world, even while staying at home,” the professor explained. During the presentation of her project, a student from her university tested the product in preview. According to her, “it was as sweet as chocolate sauce,” she said after licking a screen with chocolates scrolling.

A pizza flavor spray in progress
To carry out this project, Homei Miyashita indicated that he used special gels and an electric current to generate different tastes. The screen is covered with a disposable hygienic film to be changed with each experiment. Despite everything, the strong contagiousness of Covid-19 could prevent such a product from seeing the light of day.
According to the scientist, the marketing of his creation could approach 800 euros. In parallel with this first invention, the Japanese are working on a spray that can imitate different flavors, such as that of pizza.
