Samsung has announced the integration of the SmartThings Hub ‘software’ in the new televisions, monitors and refrigerators of the South Korean brand, to turn them into the management center for connected devices in the home throughout this year.

Bringing together various smart home communication protocols and with future integration of the Matter standard, SmartThings Hub’s embedded software will support connection via WiFi or Ethernet, allowing communication between a wide range of smart devices. Connectivity with Zigbee devices will also be possible via an optional USB accessory.

The capabilities of SmartThings Hub will be available in certain products of the company – smart TVs and monitors and Family Hub refrigerators from 2022 – throughout this year, as reported in the framework of the consumer electronics fair CES 2022 from Las Vegas (United States).

Samsung has also announced its joining the Home Connectivity Alliance, with the aim of promoting interoperability between brands and greater security in connected products for the home.

For Samsung users this means being able to operate and control household appliances from other brands through its SmartThings smart home platform. And in this way, consumers will be able to access Samsung devices from other HCA member applications.
