The magnitude 6.8 earthquake registered this Thursday in Peru is felt in a good part of the Ecuadorian territory, according to witnesses, local media and the Geophysical Institute of Ecuador.

The telluric phenomenon shook the Peruvian region of Amazonwithout personal or material damage reported at the moment, according to the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP).

The tremor was recorded at 10:58 local time (15:58 GMT) and the epicenter was located 90 kilometers east of the town of Saint Mary of Snowin the province of Condorcanquilocated in the department of Amazon.

It originated at a depth of 139 kilometers from the surface, so the population of Saint Mary of Snow he felt it with an intensity of grade 6 on the Mercalli scale, considered “strong” by specialists.

The seismic event did not generate any tsunami alert on the Peruvian coast, according to the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation of the Peruvian Navy.

Ecuador and Peru are located in the area called the Pacific Ring of Fire, where approximately 85% of the world’s seismic activity is recorded.
