The attorney general of Zacatecas, Francisco Murillo, confirmed the finding and told the press that investigations have already begun to determine the identity of the bodies and the cause of death.

A few minutes later, the authorities received the report on the location of another six bodies, apparently all male, which were found hanging inside a warehouse in the Pánfilo Natera municipality of Zacatecas, Murillo said.

The prosecutor specified that on Friday two people were arrested who were carrying a body in the back of a truck that was presumed to be related to the Pánfilo Natera event.

“We are not going to give in. We will continue to act responsibly and very firmly.” The official governor of Zacatecas, David Monreal, affirmed on Saturday in condemning the murders, and said, in a video that was broadcast on Facebook, that it is presumed that the deceased were “members of opposing criminal groups.”

After acknowledging that Zacatecas faces the “worst climate of insecurity” in its history, Monreal indicated that both President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as well as the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection and the military forces were informed about the two events.

At the beginning of the year, ten bodies were found inside a truck that was abandoned next to a huge Christmas tree, outside the Zacatecas Government Palace.

During 2021, violence intensified in Zacatecas, where clashes multiplied and bodies were found hanging from bridges and other public places, events that authorities and analysts attributed to disputes between the Sinaloa and Jalisco Nueva Generación cartels.

To deal with this situation, the federal government ordered at the end of November the dispatch of 850 members of the National Guard to the capital of Zacatecas and another 390 to nine municipalities in the state that do not have municipal police.

At the beginning of the year, López Obrador admitted that the containment of violence represents one of the challenges in the remaining three years of his six-year term.

According to figures from the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, during 2021, 33,308 homicides were registered, which represented a decrease of 3.6% compared to the previous year.

The security policies developed by López Obrador during half of his government have been questioned by opponents and analysts, who maintain that there is no defined plan and that they only apply isolated actions that have not contributed to solving the crime problem in the country. .
