Colombia registers 236 deaths and 12,567 new cases of coronavirus

The authorities Colombian reported 12,567 new infections of coronavirus and 236 deaths from the pandemic this Saturday, the day the country received almost 700,000 vaccines from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer donated by Spain.

With the figures of the day Colombia it reached 5,956,350 positive cases, of which 57,105 remain active and 135,518 correspond to the fatalities left by the pandemic.

As for infections, the highest numbers were today in Bogotá (5,648), followed by the departments of Cundinamarca (1,171), Antioquia (891), Atlántico (742), Santander (729) and Valle del Cauca (666).

The deaths, of which 216 correspond to previous days, took place mainly in Bogotá with 55 deaths, followed by the departments of Antioquia (31), Valle del Cauca (29), Santander (20), Atlántico (13), Cauca and North of Santander (10).

The Ministry of Health indicated that 28,024 tests were processed during the day, of which 16,120 are PCR and 11,904 are antigens.

Regarding the vaccines received today from Spain through the Covax mechanism, the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection, Germán Escobar, said that the new shipment is made up of a batch of 644,670 doses from Pfizer.

He explained that the serums will be incorporated into the National Vaccination Plan to complete schemes and especially for the application of booster doses.

“These doses are part of the total of 6.4 million that will arrive in full before February 12” from Spain, added the official.

This Friday, Colombia received another batch of more than 1.1 million Pfizer vaccines donated by Spain, which were delivered in Bogotá by the Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Pilar Cancela, to President Iván Duque.

The Ministry of Health also reported that 229,971 vaccines were applied on Thursday, of which 77,408 correspond to second doses and 17,670 to the single-dose formula of the Janssen pharmaceutical company.

With these data, there are already 72.6 million doses applied, of which 6.01 million correspond to reinforcements. Likewise, there are already 31.9 million people who have their complete vaccination schedule.
