The emergency services of the Emirati capital “extinguished the fire caused by the explosion of a gas cylinder,” reported the local official agency WAM, which added that no injuries or victims were reported.

“Teams managed to control the situation after extinguishing the fire and evacuating residents to a safe place,” he said.

The authorities asked people “to follow the information of the official authorities of the Emirates and avoid spreading rumours”, it added.

Somewhat later, in another statement, the US embassy warned of “information about a possible missile or drone attack” in Abu Dhabi.

Subsequently, the Civil Defense Authority of Abu Dhabi issued a “public notice” noting that “the incident was due to the explosion of a gas bottle.”

The Gulf country, which is currently hosting the FIFA Club World Cup prior to the 2022 World Cup, has been on alert since a Houthi drone and missile attack killed three migrant workers in Abu Dhabi on January 17.

In the weeks that followed, three more attacks were foiled, two of which were claimed by Yemeni rebels.

The Emirates is part of a military coalition led by Saudi Arabia, which since 2015 has supported the government of Yemen, in a war against the Houthis, close to Iran.

According to the UN, in more than seven years of war, the conflict in Yemen has left 377,000 dead and has put the 30 million inhabitants of the country on the brink of famine.
