He killed his model sister for taking selfies but was acquitted because his parents forgave him

a man from Pakistan Sentenced to life in prison in 2019 for murdering his sister, a social media model, he was exonerated of the crime on Monday after his parents granted him a pardon under Islamic law, a lawyer for the man’s family said.

Waseem Azeem was arrested in 2016 after having confessed that killed Qandeel Baloch, 26, for posing in what he called “embarrassing” photos on Facebook. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison, but his parents had sought his release, said Sardar Mahboob, a lawyer representing Azeem and his family.

Islamic law in Pakistan allows the family of a murder victim to grant a pardon to someone who has been convicted of the crime.

The murder of Baloch was condemned throughout the country, but some suspected that Azeem he could escape prison after his sentence if he received a pardon from his parents.

Mahboob indicated that Azeem could be released from this week after completing the paperwork.

The brothers’ mother, Anwar Bibi, welcomed the court’s ruling.

“I feel happy for the exoneration of my son, but we are still sad for having lost our daughter”the woman declared.

The mother told reporters that her murdered daughter cannot return, “But I am grateful to the court, which ordered the release of my son at our request”.

Baloch was found strangled in her home, near the city of Multan, in the Punjab province. The young woman was killed after posting risqué photos on Facebook of herself with a Muslim cleric, Mufti Abdul Qawi, who was also arrested for her alleged role in the murder.

The cleric was later released after police were unable to establish his connection to the crime.
