Pope Francis on Ukraine and Russia: “Humanity is a champion in waging war”

“The world is a champion in war and this is a shame for all”, This was stated this Friday by the Pope Francisco. The pontiff spoke these words during an impromptu speech when receiving in audience the participants in the plenary session of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches.

Pope Francis, who improvised this speech at a time when there is the threat of a war in Ukrainerecalled that Benedict XV “denounced the incivility of the war as a useless slaughter” , but “his warning went unheeded by the leaders of the nations involved in World War I”.
