North Korea fires ‘unidentified projectile’

North Korea fired an “unidentified projectile”, the South Korean Armed Forces reported on Sunday, after a month without launches by the communist regime during the Beijing Olympics.

Pyongyang conducted seven test launches in January, including one of its most powerful missile since 2017.

But North paused testing during the Beijing Winter Games, possibly in deference to its only ally, China, according to analysts.

North Korea he also warned in January that he would abandon a self-imposed moratorium on long-range weapons and nuclear missile tests, suspended since 2017.

The new releases come at a complex time for the region, as South Korea prepares for its presidential election on March 9.
