Pyongyang conducted seven test launches in January, including one of its most powerful missile since 2017.

But North paused testing during the Beijing Winter Games, possibly in deference to its only ally, China, according to analysts.

The new releases come at a complex time for the region, as South Korea prepares for its presidential election on March 9.

Experts say Pyongyang could use its next key date, the 110th anniversary of the birth of the late former leader Kim Il Sung on April 15, to stage a major weapons test.
