Russia says that “certain channels of dialogue” are maintained with the US.

Russia declared today that it maintains “certain channels of dialogue” with the United States in the midst of the crisis unleashed by the Russian military offensive in Ukraine and the rain of economic sanctions against Moscow.

“Channels of dialogue are maintained with the United States,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said in his daily telephone press conference about the state of relations with Washington.

He admitted that Russia suffers from economic restrictions imposed by a number of countries, in addition to the US and the member states of the European Union (EU), but stressed that this does not mean that it is isolated.

“The world is too big for Europe or the United States to be able to isolate a country, let alone one as huge as Russia,” Peskov said.

He added that there are many more countries that have a “more balanced, sometimes more sensible vision of the dynamics of the development of international relations.”

“That is why we prefer and are convinced that we should not talk about isolation. We trust that sooner or later that our position will be assimilated by those countries – the EU and NATO countries – who now have too emotional positions and refuse to understand many things that are obvious, ”he insisted.

The spokesman for the Russian Presidency stressed that the authorities are working on developing measures to deal with economic pressure from abroad.

“It is an extraordinary situation for the economy, which requires extraordinary, original, courageous measures that respond in the best possible way to our interests,” he said.

Asked if the measures include decriminalizing the use of pirated computer programs, Peskov indicated that the “economic banditry” that is observed in much of the world owes its “respective response.”

“Russia will respond in one way or another to this economic banditry, choosing the measures that best correspond to our interests,” he insisted.
