Putin assures Macron that Ukraine’s nuclear facilities are not Russia’s military objective

The Russian President, Vladimir Putinassured this Sunday to Emmanuel Macron that it has no intention of attacking nuclear installations in Ukraineand said that he agrees to guarantee its safety under the technical criteria of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

According to the account given by the Elysee of the telephone conversation with the French president, which lasted for an hour and three quarters, Putin He denied that civilians are a military target, and blamed the Ukrainian authorities for letting people out of besieged cities.

Regarding nuclear power plants, after the Russian attack last Friday on the Zaporizhzhiawhich caused a fire in an administrative building a few hundred meters from the six reactors, France had proposed a series of measures based on IAEA rules.

Macron insisted before Putin in “the need” that all military installations comply with these rules, under the sovereignty of Ukraine, and that none be the object of war operations.

The Russian president agreed to work under the technical parameters of the IAEA, which tomorrow must meet with its council of governors and from which concrete proposals are expected.

Today’s was the fourth telephone conversation between Putin and Macron since the beginning of the war.

The last dialogue between the two leaders took place last Thursday and the conclusion of the French president at the time was that the worst was yet to come.
