Dominik Stillhart, director of operations for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), told BBC radio, about the humanitarian corridors, that “The problem or the challenge is to get both parties to reach an agreement that is concrete, viable and precise.”

“We have spent days and days talking with them so that they reach an agreement that is precise enough so that it can be applied later,” he stated, pointing out that there are still problems, for example, about the itineraries.

“That is why it is so important that both parties have a clear agreement so that later we can carry it out on the ground”he insisted.

The Russian military announced on Monday the opening of several humanitarian corridors and the establishment of local ceasefires to evacuate civilians from the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv, Kiev, Mariupol and Sumy.

However, Ukraine he flatly rejected the proposal stating that “it is not an acceptable option” given that many were heading to Russia and Belarus.
