Russia convenes Security Council over biological weapons

Russia called a UN Security Council meeting on Thursday to address what it says are “Biological military activities of the United States in the territory of Ukraine”.

The Russian request, made public in a tweet by its deputy representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, was made after the US government rejected Russian claims that Ukraine is operating chemical and biological laboratories with the backing of Washington.

Responding to accusations made this week by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova without presenting evidence, White House press secretary Jen Psaki publicly warned on Wednesday that Russia might attempt to use chemical and biological weapons. against Ukraineneighboring country to which he invaded.
