China records new record of 555 daily coronavirus cases

The National Health Commission announced today the detection of 555 new positives of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 this Thursday at the China continent, a figure that marks the highest number of new daily cases since the first half of 2020.

Among the new cases, 397 were registered due to local contagion in different parts of the country, highlighting those found in the province of Shandong (east, 121), Jilin (north, 98) or Jiangsu (36, east).

The remaining 158 positives are imported from abroad and were found in cities such as Guangzhou (south, 51) and Shanghai (east, 32), where travelers face a quarantine of up to three weeks on arrival.

Health authorities also reported today the detection of 814 asymptomatic cases, 703 by local contagion, although Beijing does not count them as confirmed cases unless they show symptoms.

The total of this type of infections under observation is 3,972, of which 1,387 come from other territories.

The National Health Commission also detailed that, until last local midnight (16:00 GMT on Thursday), 141 patients were discharged after successfully passing the covid.

The total number of active infections in mainland China amounts to 2,450, seven of whom are serious.

According to the institution’s accounts, since the start of the pandemic, 112,940 people have been infected in the country, among whom 118,813 have managed to heal and 4,636 have died.

To date, medical follow-up has been carried out on 1,745,633 close contacts with those infected, of which 118,813 are still under observation.
