“The only Rapanui diplomat in the Chilean Foreign Service will be the new General Director of Ceremonial and Protocol. I have decided to appoint Manahi Pakarati, UTEM Librarian and Master in International Relations, to this position. [Relaciones Internacionales] from Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand,” Boric wrote on Twitter on February 6 to announce the appointment.

The goal of General Directorate of Ceremonial and Protocol is to attend the ceremonial of the Presidency of the Republic, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the resident diplomatic corps, as explained on the Foreign Ministry website. That’s why today she was seen escorting Boric after the oath.

In addition, some of the functions that Pakarati will have to fulfill will be to ensure the hierarchy of national and foreign authorities in official ceremonies, accredit resident diplomatic officials and officials and everything related to their residence (visas), grant Diplomatic Passports and Officers. It will also have to attend the tours of the President of the Republic abroad and the programs of official and State visits of dignitaries and foreign dignitaries invited by the Government of Chile.
